711 receives warning in the Netherlands over gambling advertising

Licensed online gambling operators in the Netherlands are prohibited from using social media influencers, professional athletes or role models to promote their servicesAccording to the country's gambling regulator, 711 used the services of an influencer to advertise online gambling, breaching the established regulationsWhile the operator agreed to remove the content in question, it also received a warning from the Dutch gambling watchdog

The Netherlands Gambling Authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), announced a warning against one online gambling operator holding a license in the country.

Earlier in the week, the gambling watchdog confirmed it had issued a warning against the online gambling provider, 711 BV.

The gambling regulator highlights two separate issues

The central part of the KSA's issue with 711 BV is the operator's use of a role model for the advertisement of online gambling.

Currently, gambling operators in the Netherlands are prohibited from using actors, models, actors or social media influencers or other public figures to promote their services.

The Dutch gambling regulations enforce a ban on the promotion of gambling by role models in an effort to protect vulnerable groups, such as at-risk gamblers or young people, from gambling advertising.

A statement released by the Netherlands Gambling Authority reads: "The KSA emphasizes that gambling providers must be careful about who they use for promotion."

Besides the warning against 711, the KSA addressed another issue.

Analysis of the gambling watchdog uncovered that the operator entered players automatically into tournaments, without requiring them to register or agree to bonus terms.

"This can lead to inappropriate gaming behavior," the Dutch gambling watchdog explained.

Earlier this month, the KSA was recognized with the Bronze Effie Award for its "Get your life back on track, stop gambling" responsible gambling campaign.

711 addressed the two issues to ensure compliance

The Authority confirmed that 711 has discontinued the practice of automatically entering players into tournaments.

Considering that the issue was already addressed, the KSA did not issue any sanctions.

Regarding the use of a role model to promote gambling, 711 admitted that its collaboration with the media personality has already ended.

In light of the KSA's warning about the breach of the established regulations, 711 was notified that such content cannot appear and must be removed.

The operator used the services of a streamer who is popular among young people by playing video games.

To ensure compliance, the operator was notified that any content promoting its brand, regardless of whether it was a photo or video, must be removed.

According to the KSA, 711 has already started to remove such content with the goal of ensuring compliance.
