The Nederlandse Loterij, the Dutch Lottery, will be searching for a new chairman after announcing the upcoming departure of its existing chair.
Late last week, the Lottery confirmed that Alexander Pechtold, who currently holds the role of chairman of its Supervisory Board, has taken the decision to step down from his role.
After more than four years, Pechtold will resign from his role
The announcement comes after the chairman has held the role for more than four years.
Pechtold joined the Supervisory Board of the Lottery as chairman back in April 2021.
Only recently, the Ministry of Finance, which is one of the shareholders of the Dutch Lottery, reappointed him for a second four-year term.
However, Pechtold decided to step down from the role, effective from the start of next year in light of his appointment as mayor of the municipality of Delft in September.
Frida van den Maagdenberg, one of the members of the Supervisory Board of the Dutch Lottery, commented on the topic, Casino Guru News learned from a press release.
"I deeply regret Alexander Pechtold's departure. The board is grateful for the way he fulfilled his role as chairman with integrity, using his skill, flair, and energy," she said.
Finally, Van Den Maagdenberg pointed out: "The board therefore expresses its appreciation for Alexander's efforts over the past four years. We will miss him!"
Search for successor expected to start soon
Leveraging his extensive experience, Pechtold played a major role in the development of the Dutch Lottery over the last four years.
Under his guidance, three new Supervisory Board members were recruited, and a CEO was appointed.
Moreover, Pechtold played an instrumental role in the development of the Lottery's new governance structure and its positioning as the most responsible gambling operator on the market, achieved in the context of the launch of the Dutch online gambling market.
Pechtold admitted that he greatly enjoyed his time as chairman of the Dutch lottery.
"The Nederlandse Loterij is a wonderful company, with great brands, fantastic products, and colleagues who provide responsible gambling with great energy and passion," he added.
What's more, Pechtold pointed out: "I leave behind an organization that is ready for the future, with a clear positioning, an ambitious strategy, and enthusiastic and driven employees."
He thanked the Supervisory Board's members for their trust and dedication, which played an important part in the development of the Nederlandse Loterij.
Pechtold will retain his role as chairman of the Dutch Lottery's Supervisory Board until January 1, 2026.
According to the Lottery, a search for a successor to the important senior-level role will be initiated.
