Some 200 workers at Caesars Entertainment's Horseshoe Indianapolis casino confirmed the launch of a strike in an effort to gain recognition for a union as their bargaining representative.
Delayed vote results in a strike
The popular casino in Shelbyville reported $336m in revenue in 2024, making it the second-highest earning casino in Indiana.
In that line of thought, some 200 dealers and dual rates employees demand that Teamsters Local 135 be recognized as their bargaining representative.
While a vote on the matter was expected on Friday, the local government issues delayed it.
Teamsters Local 135 proposed that the vote be completed by an independent third party, but the management at Horseshoe Indianapolis disagreed with that option.
This forced the dealers and dual rates employees to strike for their union recognition.
Currently, Teamsters Local 135 represents more than 12,000 employees.
The union has more than a dozen divisions and advocates better working conditions and wages for employees in different sectors.
Tommy Blitsch, Director of the Teamsters Convention, Trade Show, and Casino Division, spoke on the topic, Casino Guru News learned from a press release.
"Horseshoe is only delaying the inevitable by forcing these future Teamsters to the picket line," he explained.
Finally, Blitsch pointed out: "No matter how long they drag out this strike, it will end in the same way — with 200 casino workers getting strong Teamsters representation."
Dustin Roach, Teamsters Local 135's President, added that the dealers and dual rates at Horseshoe Indianapolis deserve the strong representation of the union.
"We will not let the casino's management stand in their way," he added.
Finally, Roach pointed out: "Horseshoe can end this strike at this very moment by recognizing the union that these hardworking men and women have fought so hard to join."
